Culinary Artistry Meets The Wonder of the Canvas at the Showman eBistro Restaurant
“The Restaurant” is coming soon to the Showman eBistro. Behind the scenes, the team is fine tuning the last minute touches to create an impressive culinary journey of flavors, textures, visual intrigue and years of practice, passion and precision translated to a diverse menu offering. If you tuned in to the recent Showman Mukbang Sessions (click here to read more about that) you would have gotten a chance to take a quick look at the dishes that will soon be served up at “The Restaurant”, as well as a sneak peek at a very special art piece that was created by Bahamian artist, Allan Wallace.
Allan has gained international acclaim due to his portraits featuring unexpected food-centric mediums that include salt, and even curry powder, as seen in his piece depicting NBA player Stephen “Steph” Curry. But, his work has proven to be far more diverse than the viral images that have been shared the world over. When the Showman team, led by Chef Romero Dorsette, initially reached out to Allan, they wanted to create something special. They wanted to create an eye-catching mural that was three dimensional.
From there, Allan ran with the idea, drawing inspiration from the musical piece “Arrival of the Birds”, which was a sweeping composition by British Nu Jazz and Downtempo music group, The Cinematic Orchestra. Allan notes that he was also inspired by the works of Italian renaissance painter, Leonardo da Vinci. Allan created initial sketches that showcased the whimsy of birds taking flight from the interior of the restaurant, and his imagination and freestyle skills resulted in a colorful and charming mural that relayed happiness and magic.
Allan notes that his creative process often draws from his imagination, and he takes the initial ideas presented by his clients as a springboard into the final creation. He notes that he greatly respects the talent and works of artists of the past and present, but he is also inspired by the Bahamian arts community. Allan notes that Angelika Wallace-Whitfield’s spark, passion and love for art has been infectious, and also inspired him to want to explore and experiment with his own artistic expression.
“Faith plays a big part in my work”, he says. He believes that we are all connected in some way, and art can help to strengthen that connection, and bring us all closer together.
