Ray “Sugar Ray” Morrison is not only a familiar face on the Showman eBistro pages, but he plays a very active role in front of and behind the scenes of many Showman events. While managing the company’s public relations and marketing efforts, Ray gets to interact with customers, the media, and the numerous community groups that Showman supports. But, Ray’s story includes some unexpected twists and turns….
Upon first meeting Ray, it is instantly apparent that he is ever the professional. And, despite his warm disposition, charisma and bright smile, he is always poised and confident. That is due, in great part, to his extensive training in martial arts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBt-zVxdOr0 Ray is a second degree blackbelt, in the Four Winds of Kung Fu Style – the only fully authentic and internationally recognized Bahamian style of Kung Fu in the world. Ray was mentored by Grandmaster Kenneth P. Lewis at the Bai Sung Institute, and since his early 20’s he has trained extensively in the artform. Over the years, he has also become a teacher, mentoring other martial artists and helping them to hone their skills and develop discipline within the arts. He has even coached The Bahamas Martial Arts Federation Team, who have gone on to compete internationally.
FUN FACT Ray competed in the first ever pay-per-view, full contact tournament in The Bahamas called “Battle On The Beach!” and you can see his skills in action in the Bahamian martial arts film, “Knockin da Conch”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8LZvCLb5Go In addition to his accomplishments as a martial artist, Ray always had an affinity for radio, and started an internship at ZNS at the young age of 16. While there, he got to know the ins and outs of broadcasting before entering the fast paced world of hospitality at the Crystal Palace Resort & Casino. He notes that he loved working in entertainment and events, and over the years, he has enjoyed showcasing his skills as a talented host with a gift for gab. Ray has honed his talents throughout his varied and exciting career. You can now catch him hosting events like the Showman Media Showdown, in interviews sharing what Showman will be up to next, or you can tune into his “Real Love” talk show on Guardian Radio.
