Be sure to check out their pages and keep reading for a bit more about their personal culinary journey, in their own words….
Meet Anecia
“I am the eldest of four girls, a wife and a mom of three. I am a banker by trade, but in my free time I do hair. My newest passion has been cooking. I love hands-on projects, and do the best to use the gifts that God has given me. And, for the past year or so, I have just been delving deeper and deeper into cooking.
Cooking has always been a passion of mine, but right now, it is my baby. Since the pandemic started, I began blogging about my recipes and the food that I create. The dishes I create aren’t pulled from recipes. I think it up in my head, come up with an idea, and I figure out how to bring it to life.
I’m usually cooking for my family and friends. But, since I was at home for a while, I decided to record and document what I was making.
People really started to connect with my food posts, and I started to realize that I have an eye for taking food photos. It wasn’t something that I planned, I just started taking photos of my dishes on my phone. But, once I decide to do something, I go full steam ahead.
I like to focus on the little touches. I like to make things as perfect as possible. I like to look at the details. And, I realize that my cooking and photos have gotten better since I’ve started to share my at home food journey.
My grandmom and my mother…. Everything that they cooked, every meal that they prepared, every single dish that they created was always excellent. They always went the extra mile, even with plating. That was something that they taught me – people eat with their eyes.
When it was dinner time, they would present their food as if you were in a restaurant. And, that is something I always remembered, and drew from.
I always loved sharing a meal with my family. One of my favorite parts about cooking is seeing the reactions of others when they take a bite – it brings me genuine joy. And, my kids, they are very supportive and they say they are my biggest fans. My son will literally jump out of his seat to tell me how good it is.
I have two teenagers, plus a toddler. And, everything that I do, is for my kids. My youngest is pretty active in the kitchen with me. He always wants to see what I’m doing. And, when my kids want to get involved, I’m always happy to include them all.
Growing up, my mom and I would always watch food network together. We would literally spend hours, on the weekend, just watching cooking shows.. I love my Bahamian culture, but I have always been curious about trying the cuisine of other cultures and countries. Watching how other people cook around the world has also inspired me to try new dishes.
This past year, I really got out of my comfort zone. And, I enjoyed dabbling with ingredients from around the world. My favourite, and perhaps most challenging, has been cooking foods from around Africa. I tried foufou for the first time, and that was an experience!
Outside of the kitchen, I am all about family. I am a homebody, I love making crafts, romance movies, and cooking has given me an outlet. I appreciate the small things, and it doesn’t take a great deal to make me feel happy and content.”
