If youâve checked out our blog post âOur Food Philosophyâ (hyperlink), then you know how important community and commitment is to us here at Showman E-Bistro. If you havenât read that post yet then what are you waiting for? Showman E-Bistro was birthed when a group of culinary and food service industry professionals wanted to provide affordable meal options to Bahamians. Our Showman meal kits are professionally curated meal boxes that can provide a family of four 5 – 7 quality dinner meals per week which comes in at $4.29 per person. Additionally, it will feed a family of two 5 to 7 quality dinner meals AND 5 to 7 lunch meals per week providing tremendous savings and value.
What prompted this desire were the devastating impacts of Hurricane Dorian and the unexpected global COVID-19 pandemic. Hurricane Dorian, the monstrous Category 5 Hurricane that ravaged the communities of the Abacos and Grand Bahamas, displaced approximately more than 14,000 people. Many of these persons were forced to start anew with little to nothing. Given little time to adjust to their situation, the entire world was then shocked into a new normal of quarantine, lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders. With the world coming to a halt, many Bahamians were faced with the task of stretching their dollars in order to feed their families. The most vulnerable and most disproportionately affected in the Bahamian community were the elderly, the disabled and children. Of course, profit is important, but at the core of our company, giving back is who we are.
Partnered with Hands For Hunger, Showman E-Bistro donates a minimum of eighty (80) meal kits a week, at a value of $170.00 a box, as well as assisting with the delivery of food parcels to those in the most densely populated areas of the country. Since our inception in May 2020, weâve partnered with over 10 civic organizations to bring meal kits to less fortunate Bahamian families, with the help of our amazing donors and corporate sponsors. Being our brotherâs and sisterâs keeper is not just a Bible verse said with no follow through but a way of life. Though Showman E-Bistro is a fairly new venture, our parent company, Showman Ltd, has been in existence for almost fifteen years. Philanthropy has always been etched in our everyday lives from sponsoring medical procedures, educational sponsorships, Cooking for a Cause ventures (to fundraise for elderly care homes and childrenâs homes) to donating our services and time. At Showman, it is important to us that we use our God-given talents to assist the most vulnerable amongst us.
Shopping local is important at Showman because we believe we have a responsibility to do our part in stimulating the local economy. Thus, our first option is always to source locally made goods and products. This does not extend solely to our meal kit food products either but other craft products we may include as well. Aside from partnering with local farmers to provide us with fresh, homegrown products, we also engage local entrepreneurs and craftsmen for different collaborations. Small to medium sized businesses are the backbone of any economy. Thus, partnering with Bahamian companies (from New Providence to the Family Islands) allows us to align with likeminded individuals and potentially increase our reach and impact. Being committed to our community is not just about making sure no one goes hungry physically, but also about taking care of our community holistically. We understand the importance of a well- rounded community.
As the world starts to open up and we learn to live with Coronavirus, the most vulnerable remain the most impacted still need our help. Food security is a major issue for many Bahamian families because the salaries remain the same but the bills get higher every month. We will continue to do our part and partner with civic organizations like the Pilot Club and the Rotary Club (two very impactful organizations here in The Bahamas) and devote our time and energy to lifting up our sisters and brothers in need. Showman E-Bistro will always do our part to give back to our community.
